The summer has come to an end and so has my internship with Burkhart Marketing. I am sad that my role as the marketing intern has ended so soon but am so grateful for all of the experience I gained. Working for Burkhart was my first professional experience, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Although I am sad to leave, I am excited to share my experience. I hope those who follow take away the same positive skills and lessons that I did.
The Burkhart Team
Integrating into a professional environment was the most intimidating part of my internship for me. As I prepared to join the team, my nerves were high. However, the Burkhart team instantly welcomed me with excitement. I was no longer intimidated. I was surrounded by individuals who value business and marketing just as much as I do. They had so much knowledge to share, and I learned so much from them.
During my time with Burkhart, the team supported me and kept me involved. There was never a moment where I felt completely lost. They helped me gain the confidence to ask questions and take on responsibilities. It truly felt like family being a part of the team. Communication came easy and channels were always open. I was truly lucky to have been part of the team and to have the opportunity to learn from each member.
A Valuable Experience
In many cases, internships are filled with coffee runs and busywork. That wasn’t the case during my time with Burkhart. I got real-world experience and saw many sides of the business. I gained more knowledge and skills in one summer than I have in any of my marketing classes. This knowledge will set me up for success in my professional life.
In addition, I learned how to be efficient and stay on task regardless of my workload. Organization was key to keeping track of my responsibilities. I am thankful for the support that Burkhart provided. There were many responsibilities that the team trusted me to take on. These responsibilities pushed me to stay diligent in order to support the Burkhart team. This internship pushed me to challenge myself and allowed me the space to learn and grow.
Hands-On Opportunities
My favorite part of the internship was working with real businesses. I not only had the opportunity to see the inner workings of Burkhart, but I got to be involved with other businesses as well. I enjoyed sitting in on calls with clients and hearing Paul’s thoughtful marketing advice. Listening to each business’ objectives showed me all the opportunities out there in the marketing world.
Specifically, I loved the work I did with one of Burkhart’s animal-loving clients. This client owns a pet resort in the Indianapolis area. It was interesting to listen to future plans in place to position this client in the competitive market. I had the chance to listen in on their goals and hear the strategies that Burkhart provided to help them be successful. Brand awareness and positioning are two marketing concepts that really stood out to me with all of the work that Burkhart does. It was fun to see concepts from my classes be applied in a professional setting.

Overall, my marketing internship with Burkhart was wonderful. I gained invaluable knowledge about the marketing industry. I feel significantly more prepared for my future professional endeavors. From time management to marketing procedures, I learned it all. I feel much more comfortable as I continue my professional journey after my internship with Burkhart.
Thank you to the team at Burkhart. I appreciate you giving me this opportunity to grow as a professional. I am so glad I got to know each and every one of you. You taught me so much. I am sad that my internship is over, but I am excited to see what comes next.
