As December rolls in, so does the tail end of my time at Burkhart Marketing Partners. Reflecting on my experience, I’m grateful Burkhart allowed me to serve as its fall marketing intern. This is the fifth and last internship I will have during my college career, and this realization leaves me humbled. 

When I walked through the doors on August 24, I was walking into my first experience representing a marketing agency. Little did I know I entered a company that treats every employee and client like they are part of the family. Burkhart Marketing creates unique relationships with each of its partners and works tirelessly to launch plans that secure concrete results. Joining a team with this culture positioned me to walk away truly developed across skill sets.

 

Creative Writing

Writing has always been a passion of mine. It’s a way for me to take my wandering thoughts and package them in a manner that resonates with the public mind. The skill to seamlessly craft a story that influences the thoughts and actions of those who read it is one that leaves me feeling empowered. 

Burkhart works across several portfolios throughout a diverse range of industries. This has broadened my experience through researching topics of interest to distinct target markets and crafting words to provide value. Through this process, I have elevated my research and writing skills while also expanding my portfolio. 

 

Design Experience

As a marketing intern, I’ve had the opportunity to access platforms, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to offer visual representations to accompany my written content. As a result, I have gained a holistic understanding of how a unified brand voice requires the alignment of colors, messaging, tone and language. This visual medium has strengthened and stretched my creative muscle.

Similar to writing, design is an element of the marketing mix in which practice promises progress. I have witnessed tangible development through my deliverables, and I‘m eager to continue this growth beyond my time at Burkhart.

 

Strategic Planning

Throughout this internship I can confidently say that I’ve been in the room where it happens. Burkhart empowers its interns to be part of the creative process during monthly content planning meetings. This gives an inside look into the intentionality required to simultaneously run four social media accounts and a blog. In order to create a seamless brand voice, there must be a forward-looking mindset into how the timing of content release impacts the visual appeal of the brand itself.

For example, content key publics prefer to consume can be uncovered through monthly website and social media reports. Recognizing these behavioral tendencies empowers Burkhart to shift monthly engagement. Strategic planning can then be implemented to create and time content to garner and boost positive interaction with the brand.

 

These are just three of many areas I’ve been able to expand as a Burkhart Marketing Partners intern. I can’t express enough gratitude for having the opportunity to be welcomed into the Burkhart family. This has been a season of flexibility, and I am glad to have spent it with a team that values its employees and has a growth-oriented mindset. Burkart played an integral role in preparing me for my career path. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead as I walk out of those agency doors for the last time. Thank you again, Burkhart!
