Fleets: Tweets that disappear after 24 hours, similar to the stories feature on Snapchat and Instagram. Have you checked out this cool, new Twitter feature?
What is Fleets?
Have you heard of this new feature that Twitter added to its platform only 48 hours ago? Many Twitter users have begun to experiment with the new feature, and there are definitely some mixed feelings about it. Twitter launched Fleets in hopes of reducing the pressure around tweeting by allowing users to express a more casual way of tossing their thoughts and feelings around. Digging down to its most basic level, you will find that Fleets is a Stories clone, borrowing all of the best ideas and features that were originally implemented by Instagram and Snapchat.
What can you do with them?
On this new feature, you can add and share text and respond to other users’ tweets. You can also post videos with mirroring background colors and overlaid text options. You can do all this while being reassured that your message will disappear in 24 hours. It also includes the ability to respond to others’ Fleets by just tapping on one and sending a direct message to the user who created the fleet.
What Fleets is most likely to help with the most is dividing up all of the opinions that get trafficked on Twitter all the time. This could spark up changes in how all users communicate on the platform now.
Will it take off?
So will users actually use Fleets? It’s hard to say because it’s not immediately clear that Twitter needs a story feature of its own. However, if there is any platform that could benefit from vanishing messages, it’s Twitter.
