How to Write Shareable Content

Shareable Content

Anyone can produce content. What takes skill is producing content that others want to share. When writing content, your objective should be to bring something valuable and relatable to your audience. This is key to capture their likes, shares and retweets.

Shareable content goes beyond the physical words you write. The visuals in your content marketing can be just as, if not more, important than your words.

Social media thrives off of quick content that can be seen and understood in seconds. In order to get your post shared, and not scrolled past, you have to make it pop.

Make Your Content Informative

Your audience shouldn’t have to go searching for more information after reading your post. Whether it’s a blog post or a tweet, your content should tell your reader everything they need to know.

In blogs, the title is a good place to start. The audience should know exactly what they are getting by reading a title. This also helps make it more shareable because it grabs the attention of your reader and whomever they share it to. Unless you are posting a scholarly article full of facts and figures, subtitles and bullets make content a smoother read. The easier your audience can get through and understand your content, the more likely they will want to share it.

For social media posts, captioning shouldn’t be overwhelming. Just because Twitter gives you a character limit doesn’t mean you need to use every character possible. Be concise and to the point.

Sometimes 140 characters just doesn’t cut it. Adding links is a great way to keep content easy to grasp while still including everything your audience needs to know. The key in creating shareable content is to hook in the reader’s attention, and quickly. Once you have that, you can give them more.

Shareable Content is Memorable Content

Sharing on a digital platform is as easy as a click of the button for your audience. However, you want the content being shared to be memorable. Tying in known quotes to your content can make it easier to remember because of that connection. If you have some wise words of your own, stating them in terms that will stick in consumers’ minds is the way to go.

Simplicity is often key when it comes to content. The last thing you want is for people to misquote you or to put words in your mouth. Simplicity is easy to remember and easy to share.

When posting about your content, pick some words or phrases that highlight your main point. Add a visual to keep a picture in consumers’ minds to associate with your brand or your messages. Not every reader is going to think or focus on the same things. Having multiple elements to your content allows every type of thinker to have something to hold on to.

Here is a list of some of the most shared content on social media to give ideas of what works.

Make Content Easy to Share

Social media does this for you. Simple buttons make sharing accessible for everyone on many platforms. This being said, if you are hoping for shares on your website, it’s your job to make sharing easy. Including buttons that link to social media is a simple option for your audience to utilize. Additionally, posting content on multiple platforms will increase your reach and make sharing available to a wider range of people.

Knowing who your target audience is can also make content more shareable. It’s easy for a business person to share marketing tips. However, a nurse may be less likely to share that same content. Know who you want to share your content to and speak to them.

Adding a specific call to action can also help. Encouraging interaction with a post is sometimes a helpful push to your audience to do more than just read it and move on.
