Intern Spotlight: Erica Biagini

Burkhart Marketing has had a busy past couple of weeks! We have just welcomed two more interns to the team who will be with us this Fall. The first intern that we’d like to introduce in our Intern Spotlight Series is Erica Biagini. Erica is currently a senior at Butler University who is majoring in Marketing and Spanish. Be sure to keep scrolling to learn who she would most like to swap places with for a day and what throwback jam she loves to listen to!

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I would definitely spend my time cooking and baking. I have hundreds of recipes saved on my phone that I want to make one day. I haven’t gotten around to them just yet.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

During my middle school years, I became engrossed in crime shows, particularly CSI and NCIS, which led me to believe that I wanted to be a crime scene investigator when I grew up. This quickly changed when I realized how squeamish I am when it comes to blood and body parts. I’m also starting coming to terms with the fact that being a CSI is not as glamorous as the shows portray.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

I would love to trade places with my 3-year-old self while still processing information in my current mind. I would love to be as self-aware as I am now, just in a different body. I think it would be so neat to live the day-to-day of my younger self and actually coherently remember it!

Who or what inspires you?

As cliche as it seems, my parents are my biggest inspiration. My mom opted to attend beauty school instead of getting her bachelor’s degree. To this day, she wishes she would have obtained her degree and had some flexibility in her career path. My dad immigrated to the US from Scotland in his early 20s. His career path has been one of trial and error. He too never had the typical “college” experience that people strive for today. My parents’ backgrounds are the reason they are so invested in my university experience and career path. I hope that in some way they are experiencing college secondhand through me!

What is your most-used emoji?

The smiley face!! This is a reflection of how I am in real life too: always smiling. I tend to overuse emojis because I think texting takes a lot of the emotion out of communication. Using emojis is my way of being lively through text!

What do you feel prepared you most for life after college?

Having a career mentor at Butler that devotes time to meeting with me 1 on 1 and making sure my professional life is on track. Having someone be so invested in my success, aside from my family members, has been a huge help in allowing me to step outside of my comfort zone without fear of failing.

What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

This past summer, I commuted an hour to and from my internship every day, which left me with lots of time to get lost in my own mind while driving. I thought a lot about my ambitions and visualized how my life would look in the next few years. Something I recently started doing while I drive is list what I am grateful for out loud. This gets me in the right mindset for the day, no matter what kind of morning I have had.

What is a professional goal that you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

In the next 5 years, regardless of the profession or industry that I land in, I would like to be promoted at least once. This goal is not financially motivated but motivated by personal growth and development. I think promotions are a telltale sign of the valuable contribution someone makes to an organization!

What is your favorite throwback jam?

“Night Moves” by Bob Seger. I love oldies in general but I will never get sick of this song! I very much associate music with emotion. When I listen to this song I feel nostalgic because it reminds me of road trips with my mom. During my senior year of high school and all throughout college, my mom and I spent hours upon hours together in the car. We always listen to music from her era, which I love just as much as her 🙂

Who is your favorite superhero? Least favorite?

Favorite superhero: my mom

Least favorite: Ant Man

Where is your happy place?

North Berwick, Scotland!! North Berwick is the seaside town where my grandma lives. I think it is the most charming place on earth and I find so much peace in being there. It seems like the people who live there are living in a different decade because their lifestyle is so laid back!
